Chateau d'Arsac

Un des plus anciens du Médoc

The Château d'Arsac was purchased by the wine grower and merchant Philippe Raoux on 1986.At the end of the XIXe century, the vineyard of Arsac became one of the biggest in the Médoc but, after a golden age, the invasion of phylloxera wiped out the vines and the sales of Médoc wine collapsed.

The successive owners of the estate were reduced to pulling up the vines to the extent that by 1954, when the Margaux AOC was created, there were no longer any vines at all at Arsac.

When Philippe Raoux bought the château in 1986, the building was in ruins and the vines had disappeared.

Extensive work was immediately put in hand to renovate the buildings and to replant the vineyard, which was granted the Margaux AOC in 1995.

The Arsac vineyard one of the ten largest in the Médoc, covers a total uninterrupted area of 112 hectares: 54 hectares benefit from the Margaux appellation and the other 58 from the Haut-Médoc AOC.

The vineyard is planted with the two principal grape varieties of the Médoc: 40% Merlot and 60% Cabernet Sauvignon.
